Overview:
This interface allows you to define how anonymous users interact with your FTP server.
Note:
The Anonymous FTP icon appears only if your system administrator enables FTP services and anonymous FTP.
Anonymous FTP settings
Warning:
We strongly recommend that you deny anonymous users the ability to upload files to your FTP server. This setting prevents malicious software uploads, which can harm your website.
To configure Anonymous FTP settings, perform the following steps:
- Select the checkboxes for the permissions that you wish to allow.
- Deselect the checkboxes for the permissions that you wish to deny.
- Click Save.
When users log in to FTP anonymously, they must format usernames as [email protected], where example.com represents the user’s domain name. This requirement directs your server to the correct public_ftp directory.
Note:
If a user does not include a domain name, one of the following errors will appear:
- If your server uses Pure-FTP as the FTP server, users receive a 421 Can’t change directory to /var/ftp/ error message.
- If your server uses ProFTP as the FTP server, users receive a 530 Login Authentication Failed error message.
Welcome message
You can set a message that anonymous FTP users see when they connect to your FTP server.
To set a welcome message, perform the following steps:
- Enter the welcome message in the Anonymous FTP Welcome Message text box.
- Click Save.
